whirlpool front loader drain/spin cycle

Whirlpool front Loader AWM8121 ( 3 years old) wont drain/spin although 1 in ten wash cycles it will complete ok.
Test sequence according to manual suggests timer faulty
Would this be accurate.

Is timer easy to repair and or should i be looking for dirty contacts, loose connections and so on

At $258 for a new timer i will try some troubleshooting first
Any help would be appreciated

Can anyone provide a service manual or similiar please
