Whirlpool problems

I have two problems. First, when washing, the little door covering the dish soap does not always open.
Second, I have noticed some dampness around the baseboard to the right of the dishwasher. I can't figure out where the water is coming from.

Bit hard to tell without the model number.
However, older models, I'd suspect the dispenser solenoid being intermittently faulty. Newer models, could be the the same thing or even the electronic module.
As to the dampness, check the door seals and check that the machine is level, also check that it isn't overfilling.
