The symptoms you give are a bit vague. When selecting a wash programme does the machine just stay idle when started.If so check to see if other programmes are functioning ie set to drain or spin does the machine still lie idle.If it does the likelyhood is the door interlock. If it works on other progs like spin or drain try a boil wash programme, does it fill on this programme if so and not on the cooler washes it indicates the cold water inlet valve. I assume you have checked and confirmed water is getting up to machine. Also please post the model number with postings.

A model number is required to see if we know anything about the machine. As you're not in the UK it's unlikely we'll have any information but give us the model number and we can try.
