We bought a new Whirlpool AWOD 5726 a couple of months ago so is still under warranty. It has been working fine, but we noticed that it hadn't spun water out of the last load it did. We put the load back in and tried just a spin cycle, but the timer didn't tick down, and it seemed to be stuck on the low spin bit at the beginning of the spin cycle. We will be calling someone out but just wondered if anyone else has had this or knows what could be the problem? The fact that the timer isn't working suggests an electrical fault.

Does the pump operate to pump water out

If not check filter (maybe worth checking anyway)

check the main thick pipe attached to the drum on the inder side

possibly got a sock or something

you only assume its not working.

Timers do just that, time things, however the "timer" on a WM is more than just a timer.
Take for example the heat pause. After initail filling the heater comes on, but the"timer" will stop and wait for the heater to raise the water temp to that which is required. Now if the heater is covered in limescale it will take longer than when it was new, but the timer will still wait no matter how long it takes the water to get to temp. On older m/c if the element had failed, the timer would sit there for ever, and people through ignorance would say the timer is faulty it needs a new one because it doesnt move.

The truth as you can now see is, it doesnt move because the heating element has failed so the water will never get hot, so it is actually doing its job.

There are a lot of other "functions" that "interact" with the timer, so just because one thing doesnt work doesnt mean its that that is at fault, for what they do, a WM is very clever.

Problem sorted, thanks for replies....had read somewhere that "timer" will be waiting for the next phase to start before continuing. Then I read that an unbalanced washing machine will cause it not to spin at high speeds. There was only one item that was being washed/spun, and when we removed it and tried a spin empty it was fine, so that one item must have unbalanced it....anyhow it all works again now.
