my machine makes a loud bumping sound and jumps about 3 inches at the end of the cycle. any suggestions as to why it thinks its a kangaroo?

I assume by 'end of cycle' you mean that it's during the final spin.

Check first that your load is balanced properly.

thanks for the help. found out from an appliance repairman that this was perfectly normal for a machine that has not been used for a while. It has now stopped.
