OK, nothing to do with me, but more a discovery of past errors in our rented house.
Foolish housemate ran out of washing powder so put some washing up liquid in the washing machine as a replacement and stuck it on.
Washing machine promptly filled up with foam and then started leaking foam out of the door, we managed to open the door and using a mop got rid of some of the foam and stuck the washing machine on to drain. It promptly created more foam and overflowed again.
Foam from the previous overflowing is still everywhere and filling up the sink....its surpassingly difficult to get rid of and occupies quite a large space.
Then the power trips out, and continues to trip out. Apparently its happened before, where the power will trip out when the washing machine has been on, but it is sporadic.
Begin to think there might be a link between the foam and the power tripping out but cant for the life of us work it out, why is the washing machine tripping out, is it annoyed about the foam?
We pull the washing machine out of the hole under the counter and all becomes clear. . . . .
When fitting the washing machine a plug is needed under the counter, so a spur has been run from the plug above the counter, its cable pops out of the wall under the worktop and then continues to floor level where a socket is screwed to the plinth, not really a good thing to secure the socket too anyway. BUT to make it worse the socket is right underneath the drainage pipe for the washing machine, right next to 3 water pipes and just below the input pipes for the washing machine.
The drain pipe overflowed with foam, which flowed down the pipe on to the socket and cause the short. As the pipe leaks with normal water this too causes the random shorting of the power.
WHY is the plug screwed to the skirting board
WHY is it located underneath the drainage pipe???
Very bemused by the sparks decision.
At least no fire was caused
