I always understood KISS to stand for Keep It Simple, Stupid.

You understood correctly BAS, often used in engineering, business, etc, when needlessly overcomplicated procedures create more problems than they are trying to solve.

Many older sayings seem to get b*****dised these days, which is a shame.

and BTW BAS: there are many variations on the Kiss theme: Sweetheart being one of them (and much sweeter - but of course - than Stupid) See also the website Pip suggested.
