Why do i have hot water.

Hi there,
could someone answer me this question please,i can only think that it is because of the temperature outside. I haven't turned my hot water on for 2 weeks now but every night I go home I have a shower and the water is hot. it isn't hot enough to scold myself but it is hot enough to have a pleasant shower. The pipe coming out the top of the cylinder in the airing cupboard is warm and the airing cupboard itself is nice and toasty.i had a look at the immersion and the cable to that aint even wired in. is it just the matter of the water in the tank in the loft being warm due to this heat and that is keeping it warm.

Turn your system (boiler) off at the main electrical spur and leave for a couple of days. If the water in the cylinder stops being warm then there is an issue with the electrical controls... programmer etc.

How is your home heated?

also I have a smart meter and it doesn't show up anything strange for the gas being used,it is at a constant level with no rises in gas usage.

Your gas usage is "constant" in this weather???

yeh it is the same usage constantly. if my programmer was faulty and it was kicking in the boiler then I would see the differenc3e in gas being used to heat it up on the smart meter.

yes exactly. i dont understand it.
1..my imersion aint wired in so no electric there
2..my programmer is switched off so no time set for boiler to kick in.
3..there is no gas being used as i have been on SSE website and looked at my usage and nothing used.
and no i dont have solar, i cant work it out..

Lots of hot water cylinders have two immersion heaters there might be another one that is wired up

Your first post says that you have a tank in the loft, is this what feeds the hot water tank. If the incoming water were warm, then the boiler would still heat the water to the preset temperature, but you'd be using less gas to do it, so you're useage should have gone down slightly. But as you're just showering with the supposedly cold water, you need to put a thermometer on the tank, pipes etc, and see what the readings are. I get failry warm water out of my cold taps at night, but ass yours are in the loft, and the airing cupboard, they would be getting hotter than mine would.

Your loft is probably around 70c so the cold water tank will be getting nice and warm

My cold water tank in loft is giving me water that is warm due to the extreme heat in the loft. This feeds my hot water cylinder which then sits in a hot airing cupboard. I am sure the reason you have hot water is because of this.
