Thanks in advance

Amateur plumber here / hobby DIY-er. Im trying to install an instant hot water tap.

The first step was to install a tee valve. My efforts can be seen in the picture. As i am installing the tap later this week i thought it was best to add cap-ends so i can still use the water e.g. for washing machine. But i just tried the isolator and the tee valve is leaking, i think the top compression fitting but it could even bee where the tee valve is connected.

I used an olive and some paste, but i didnt use PSFE tape, was that my fatal error? Or is this the wrong fitting entirely.

Happy to call a plumber if this is a bridge to far for an amateur, but i assumed it wasn't that complicated.

Depends on what's needed, whether the tee's that's the wrong fitting. Those caps may struggle as the ends of the tee are sharp and may have cut into the sealing washer that should be in those caps. Turn off the water - disconnect the tee - put an isolation valve in its place - then a little piece of pipe and refit the tee. You now have a means of isolation and you won't need to turn the other water off again and it won't leak at the tee.
