Not MDF related, but when I overboarded the kitchen floor with plywood, every time I cut it, it seemed to release choking eye irritating fumes, Ive never know plywood to do that before.
Possibly the glue used. I'm convinced that some of the Chinese carp we install these days is made with glues which are not quite what they say they are on the CoSHH sheets.
Could also be the timber species used. The Chinese seem to be willing to make plywood out of anything at all which looks vaguely like a tree, so possibly a sub genus of teak or iroko (both of which produce dust which is classed as potentially harmful - causing respiratory distress) is being used
