I bought a small wooden door canopy/porch like this one and I want to put slate tiles on it.

Its 60cm wide, so guessing 5cm over hang on the front/verge, so total of 65cm wide.

What width tiles should I use?
200mm 250mm or 300mm?

I know I can use one-and-a-half width tiles and I can't half a tile if it will be less than 150mm.

What would the bottom row of eave tiles be?
200mm wide tiles => (wall) 150mm + 200mm + 300mm (verge) - using 1.5 tile
250mm wide tiles => (wall) 275mm + 375mm (verge)
300mm wide tiles => (wall) 200mm + 300mm + 150mm (verge)

I'm also trying to figure out what's the best layout to make it look even, so there's not a big tile on the left and a tiny tile on the right.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks :)

The smallest tile available, because they are close to the eye, and therefore will appear to be larger, than the tiles on the roof. Tiles, with a little practise, can be cut down to size - simply even out the widths.

Use something like a (naughty word) machete, with the tile propped on the edge of a firm vertical surface, where you want it cut. I remember doing exactly that, as a 10-year-old, on my uncle's farm.

Ah ok! I've actually got a machete and never used it haha thanks.

Smallest tiles I've found are 200mm, but wouldn't I end up cutting a half tile to be less than 150mm if I did that.

So if it's 65cm and i want them centered, do you mean cut them down to 65/4 = 16.25cm each?

But then I couldn't do a half tile of 8.12cm for verge.

So should I do a 1 and half tile width of 24.5cm?

Sorry, I'm super confused haha

So if I do tiles of 16.25cm wide (where one-and-half-tile is 25.36cm) I guess that will look slightly better.

1st row => 1 + 1 + 1 + 1
2nd row => 1.5 + 1 + 1.5

and accounting for a 3mm gap between each
