I’d like to fix the fence boards direct to the posts. I’ve bought 3.6 m boards. So 3 posts at 180cm will allow a 3.6m board to span centre to centre and a post in the middle. I thought it would mean I won’t have to do any or much cutting.
But I’ve just had a horrible thought that I’d in future I wanted panels, then I can’t, the posts are too close. Or I’d have to reduce panel widths.
does anyone think it matters? Is it best to space them at 6ft between posts and cut wood to fit? Would be a lot of wasted wood and cost a lot more. Unless I screw wood inside the posts to secure 1.8m boards to.
just wondered what’s normal, does it matter, should I plan for panels just in case?
worse case is the posts can’t accommodate off the shelf panels and so they’d need to be cut thinner. Or always use boards.
posts re concrete in so not easy to move.
