Thats a topical subject.
Was once told that by fitting horizontal boards at base of fencing panels
it would have the effect of breaking wind pressure, which would reduce risk of fences blowing over.
Any thoughts,please?
Chaotic .

we do like to dig-in the gravelboards a little as this adds stability.

we also concrete right up to the bottom of the gravel board when filling the post holes in, as this prevents them dropping.

me too, but I don't see any way it can reduce wind pressure.

To do that you would need gaps in the fence. Or maybe bushes in front or behind it to cause turbulence.

A trellis section in the top in place of a fully solid panel will reduce wind pressure.

Getting the post in deep enough and concreted in is the main thing. Preventing the panels from blowing out from the posts is the problem most face. Using metclips and screws is a good way, but ultimately if the wind is that strong, a 6' panel will break anyway. Reinforcing the top bar with a stiffer length of timber can work wonders, but can also look a bit unsightly.

Featheredge & arris rail fencing doesn't go anywhere if it's properly fitted. Always use an offcut of arris rail or 2x2 to fix the centre of the bottom arris rail to the gravelboard though.

*typing this with one eye looking outside at one of my fence panels, which looks like it's about to go
