Hi,
I am planning a single storey rear extension, just wondered if the 45 degree rules with regard neighbours light applied to single storey extensions or if it was mainly for double storey.

Thanks

Not sure if there is a hard-and-fast 45 deg rule, though councils still use this as a guide sometimes. The determining factor should be - would the loss of light to the adjoining property's window be unreasonable.
Is this for a planning application?

Each council has its own policy on how it is applied if at all. Check with your own council

Find your Local Plan on your LA's website somewhere it will likely be refereed to in there if they use it.

The extension would fall under permitted development for a kitchen extension but plan run full width of the rear and include a farage so will need planning. I have looked on local authority web site and It is very vauge and only really mentions double storey. Will have to give them a call.

Thanks

The 45 degree rule only normally applies to extensions of more than one storey, so single storey extensions should be fine.

However, as others have said... check with your LPA as their polices differ.
