Windows 7 Update freeze

Hello all,
Can anyone tell me if they have updates that freezes their pc.
A friend of mine has installed win 7 64bit home edition. has tried fixingthe problem as prescribed through tthe help but no joy.
Is there any other things that can cause the problem? e.g. drivers?

There loads of things that can cause problems a lot of the time its malware I'd check for that first.
