click on start and look in your programs and find "startup", remove the items from start up and it should go away.

Put a decent operating system on it.

Avoid Vista at all costs and get XP Pro - you'll see a big difference and wont regret it :)

As the OP already has Vista, your advice does not help one little bit.
Telling him to dump his operating system and spend 150 quid for an older system is on a par with talking through your ####.

I use both XP Home and XP Pro and find them very good but if I had a machine using Vista and it had a fault I would want to fix it not layout another 150 smackers.

Not sure where you would pay £150 for XP Pro. Try Novatech, it's only about £55.

And depending on the specs of your system ie. if it's quite a new one, you will see a big difference.

I realise he may not want to spend more money, but it could be worth it.

ps. Where does it say he has an older system? Not likely if it came with Vista...

The 'oldeer system' that I reffered to was XP as opposed to Vista NOT his hardware.
