Windy loftspace! - Could this be why?!

ok guys, my roofs in very good order externally (except for one broken tile I need to replace) however this is the state of the inner lining .

The loft is not surprisingly, very windy and cold.

What is the best solution to trying to lessen the wind and heat loss without having an unnececssary re roof!

I did think of felting between the rafters but have got no idea on the best way to fasten the felt into position?

any ideas would be gratefully appreciated

your roof has merely been lined with building paper. not very durable at all.

if you seek a more lasting remedy, then you will need to remove the tiles and fix a proper roofing membrane, i.e unserslaters felt or breathable membrane.

lessen any effects a drafty roof may bring by thoroughly insulating the loft ceiling. a drafty roof isn't always a bad thing so long as the insulation is adequate.

It was not uncommon to use sislakraft / building paper usually on homes built to a tight budget. It looks like yours has a concrete plain tile roof covering which is very reliable.
If the rest of the roof is in good order ie: hips or ridges not falling off then simply bump up the insulation at ceiling level and think your self lucky you have not a lack of ventilation / condensation issue

I have enquired into getting some new loft insulation as the old stuff doesnt seem to be doing a great job keeping the house warm.

I would kingspan it for certain if it wasnt so pricey

Deluks - Im not 100% sure is the honest answer!
I took a damp cloth to it and it cleans off with some hard rubbing so its nothing structural I dont think.

Its almost a chalky or mortar stain maybe?
