I was a bit worried that I'd wrecked my most recent 5 gallon batch of white wine. The 5gal fermenting vessel, sits on a heated panel, powered via a temperature sensor, display and control. Towards the end of the fermentation, the sensor fell of the vessel, so the panel stayed on full time, over-heating the wine. In fact it has turned out to be good as ever, I opened the first bottle of the batch, yesterday..

What'll you call it: 'Old Harry's Hair Tonic'?:D

You say 'white wine' but is it sweet, dry, fizzy, tangy...? I like the elderflower brew, cold; just the job on a day like today. A bit o' mint in the ice cube, for a bit of flavour.

It's described as a 'medium dry Italian white wine'. I don't like it too dry, but with a meal it's fine. I buy it from Wilko as a kit, as I have done for a few years now. It's there cheapest, for the number of bottles it produces, around 30. The 30 bottles then tend to last me 6 to 9 months.

Have you ever tried to make it from scratch?
Tried that with gooseberry. Once. The mess was catastrophic.
I'd no idea what i was doing. :giggle:
The end product didn't taste too bad, though, but with all the muckin' around it's just easier to get the kit.

Over the years, I made it from scratch, plus from bought grape juice, and beers too, and had few bottles explode. This, long before kits first appeared. Now I just use the kits, and the result is much more consistent.

I found beer much easier to make, those kits in the 80s were fantastic: 40 pints in next to no time - which gives me an idea for marketing your brew. Remember the Boddington's advert? You could have a supermodel quaffing a glass of 'Bloomfields' with a cheeky glint in her eye as she declares it to be the best thing she ever put in her mouth, in a broad Yorkshire accent. ;)
