Wiring a hive unit

After many failed attempts to do this myself and then trying to find an electrician to to do it for me (which also failed as they all say they do not touch boilers, I am now seeking assistance from the Internet.
The attached shows how everything is wired now with a wire coming from the boiler (a valiant eco range combi) to the timing box and the wired thermostat.
What I can not work out is how to replace the existing timer with the hive unit.
Any and all help would be gratefully received

There is something a tad unusual about your installation. The LP522 programmer has two channels for systems with central heating and a stored hot water system. [hot water cylinder]. Combi's only require one channel for heating, because the hot water is instantaneous on demand.

I'm guessing here that the old programmer is a 'carry over' from a previous system that was removed when the combi boiler was installed, but wasn't done particularly well.

So, first of all, as they are the same, can you clarify if your photo below is the backplate for the LP522 programmer, or the Drayton RTS1 room thermostat, and that the Hive you have purchased is the single channel version of the Hive for combi boilers.

The photo is of the programmer back plate. The wires for the Drayton thermostat come in to neural with live in position 4 and the white wires connected off the plate.
I have the Single Channel Hive unit.

Decommissioning the old Drayton RTS1

Disconnect the old thermostat wires from the programmer. L (from terminal 4) and N (from Neutral)

The white thermostat wire that is 'connected off the plate' should also be disconnected and removed. [The remaining white wire that it was connected to is the 'Heating on' wire]

The old thermostat cable should now not be connected to anything at the programmer end so the earth too is disconnected and the cable can be removed.


To install the Hive

The Hive will likely fit on the old LP522 programmer black plate, but I always recommend that the new Hive back plate is used with the new Hive receiver, then everything is nice and new.

The Neutral and Live are self explanatory. They go from the LP522 (N) and (L) to the Hive (N) and (L) respectively

The remaining white wire that was connected 'off plate' is the 'central heating on' wire and so goes to the Single Channel Hive (3) heating On.

Finally, you need to add a wire link between the Hive (L) and Common (1) terminals

Ahhhhhh. That must be where I went wrong!
I did everything you said - except for connecting the Hive L for Common 1.
I will try that as soon as I get home and update you on progress!

@stem I am sure that valliant eco range room thermostat is 24v dc switching, op make sure you check before connecting the live to 1 on the hive or you will blow the pcb in the boiler, post a pic of where you have connected the wires on the PCB before doing anything

The OP has confirmed his existing programmer wiring as:

It will already be providing a 230V live on terminal 4 'heating on'

Unless I have missed something?
 
Hi @stem just checked and there is indeed two sets of connections on the PCB for room thermostats, one 24v and one 240v if connected to terminals 3+4 at the pcb then that is the 240v side
 
I get home about 6pm so will crack on with the solution from @stem then and post an update.
