wiring a new light fitting

im ready to fit my new light, from the ceiling wiring i have 2 black 2 red how do i know which black joins the reds. :(

neither do.

you should join the 2 reds and connect the light to the two blacks
 
Let's hope that whoever installed the wiring did it properly.

Personally I'd check which wires were live and which were switched-live.
 
thats easy for you to say but idf you mention the word meter, most would think of metre

Ah, but where shall I meet her?

Is she a vegetarian, or should I offer her meat? Err...
 
How about when I took off my bedroom light once and found four cables of grey rubber. One connected to one terminal in the lamp holder, two twisted together in the other terminal and another one loose on it's own. :eek:

Suffice to say I replaced the whole upstairs light circuit promptly.
