hi, I am new to here so hopefully I won't make any mistakes.
The problem that I have is that in my livingroom there is a brass dimmer that controls the centre light and another that controls the wall lights, these are side by side and appear to be wired togeather.
I want to remove them and replace them with a (bought from B&Q)lightswitch toggle double 2 way 10ax georgian style brass. that is what it says on the packaging. In the instructions in the packet it covers about 5 or 6 different wiring diagrams but not the one I need.
I expected that when I removed the dimmers that it would be straight forward, not so, just my luck .
So you see my problem, hope you can help as it has caused my renivations to grind to a near halt.
Thanks in antisipation.

What wires do you have, and where do/did they go in to the existing switches - a picture would be quite useful (also if you've disconnected them without noting down what went where, this could get tricky...)

hi I have taken a photo of the wires in situ, can you please tell me how I can get it to you as it is sitting in my pictures, sorry I bet itsstraight forward.
Cheers

Certainly an interesting way of wiring them up. Is the switch on the right in the photo 2 way, i.e. does another switch control the same light?

The one on the left is easy, on your new switch just wire the red and the blue in to Com and L1 (or L1 and L2 if the switch has L1,L2,L3 instead of Com,L1,L2).

The one on the right I can't see which terminals the wires go in to to be sure (a photo from overhead would help), but basically the terminals 1, 2 and 3 on the existing switch should correspond with Com, L1, L2 (or L1, L2, L3) on your new switch, so just swap the wires over...

You need to sort those bare wires out between the two back boxes, either by using a dual back box, using sheathed twin and earth between the two or use something like a conduit coupler and male bushes.
Need to sort the earth out too - I can't see a connection between the two boxes.

I'd assumed from the fact the OP had said it was a double switch that they were replacing the two separate switches with one double switch, at which point they will remove the backbox...
