Recovering our loft with insulation that expands to about 300mm, the instructions say do not lay over any wiring or reroute if necessary, lol but it's impossible with insulation this thick, in some parts there are more wires than others but what is the danger if any of laying over wiring ?

A reduction in the cables current carrying capacity due to heat not being able to dissipate which may lead to overheating and in the worst case, fire.

For lighting wiring it's *generally* fine (1mm T&E can still carry enough for a lighting circuit even when under >100mm of insulation iirc), the problem comes with higher current draw appliances, in particular electric shower cabling, as the derating factor of the insulation may mean the cable can no longer safely carry the current required for the shower, at which point you risk overheating and potential fire etc...

The only circuit in my loft is the lighting circuit, and I'm rewiring it in order that all the cables are above the insulation when the roofers come next month.
