wiring switch

hopefully you can see this. View media item 21217The one on the left is correct, it is the downstairs hallway switch that is 2 way 2 gang that swicthes the upstairs landing light and the downstairs hallway wall lights. The drawing on the right is of another downstairs hallway switch that should switch the downstairs hallway wall lights 2 way with the other switch drawn and the kitchen lights. Can you tell me where the wires should go on the right hand switch shown as the kitchen lights only come on when the hallway lights are turned on thanks

Firstly, are you sure on the first switch that single cable top right actually is black, and not red?

yes sorry it should be red all the rest are correct thankyou for your help in advance

you already have 2 other posts asking this..
be patientand provideus with what we ask for, which is usually clear pictures or a much better description..
it just ****es us off when you don't supply answers to our questions yest expect us to be able to diagnose and fix your problem from miles away with little or no usefull information..

Could really do with a picture of how you have currently wired up the switch you are having problem with.

I see in your earlier post the kitchen is 2 way as well.

Logic would suggest the switch MAY be wired like the hall switch at the first switch, with single red at common and two core red in L1 and two black in L2. It doesn't really matter which way round L1 and L2 go.

You may need a multimeter to do continuity tests to confirm which cable goes where, with the power off.

Does the hall 2 way switching function correctly as you have it? Do any wires currently link across the two gangs of the switch?

Could do with description of how the OTHER 2 way switch in the kitchen is wired.

Possibly in a similar manner, with a single red at common; and a twin red and black to L1 and L2...

tried with both single reds in the commons and the other X2 red/black cables in the l1 and l2 but thats even worse. The other 2 way switch in the kitchen has x2 cables both twin red/black. On 1 cable the black is in c and red in l1 on the left gang and on the other cable which goes to the right gang has black in l1 and red in l2. There is a loop in the common to the other common thanks again guys

At the switch you are working on have you tried just swapping the single commons over, leaving the twin cables going to the L1and2s?

Work safely.

we need actual photographs ( close up and clear ) of the following before we are able to help properly

1. the wiring in the switches concerned
2. the wiring in the lights concerned
3. the wiring in any other switches or lights that are not working properly ( ie the kitchen ones etc.. )
4. the wiring in any junction boxes attatched to the lighting circuit..

just tried that still no good. When the left switch is off the right turns the hallway on/off. With the left switch on the right turns the hallway and kitchen on/off.

Is the other switch on the last 2 gang switch in the kitchen for an outside light or something that's designed to be switched one way only?

Which of all switches mentioned have you already replaced (in case they may be wired wrong, no offence intended)?

I'm surprised the last switch in the kitchen has a BLACK going to a common, the common which feeds the other switch common.

pic3- kitchen lights 2 way from hallway. Should be correct havent changed anything.

Coljack I alerted the mods to greeny's polluting the forum but they dont seem to be bothered. Come on mod 8!

just tried that still no good. When the left switch is off the right turns the hallway on/off. With the left switch on the right turns the hallway and kitchen on/off.

what happens when the right switch is on and you turn the left one on and off? presumably the kitchen light switches on and off?
