Hi,
We purchased a house recently and I'm am wondering what the previous owner did to the wood flooring and how best to make it look fresh again. It looks like engineered wood with a very thin hardwood layer (1mm maybe, see picture with the dent). Total thickness is 3cm, which I suspect was needed because of the underfloor heating. The original colour has fainted a lot and taken a white-ish hue (see edges colour vs the rest). After moping the water gets cloudy white extremely quickly like something is leaching out of the wood.
Would anyone know what could be the cause of this and if it is possible to get the original colour back?
Thanks.

Looks like plywood to me o_O
I would simply lightly sand it to give a key for varnish/oil to grip.
3 coats of a good floor varnish and you'll be fine.
