Wood type and fixings suggestion

I had wrongly assumed the rear support would be the most important so thanks for your advice.

I will do as you say and screw into all the studs on the sides and then try and screw into studs at the rear but from an angle and then use a couple of toggle bolts on the rear for extra support

the rear support is important but each fixing is only sharing whats in front off it to the front edge also if the fixing fails it will transfer load sideways with minimal deflection
the end support hold the full weight off the shelve minus the help the back edges gives

if you just supported the back and front the wood would quite quickly snap after bending a little as its across the grain as the strength lies along the grain think off several pencils blue tacked side by side
