Wood work plans and stuff?

I dream of such a thing on a hot and rainy afternoon!

But, whenever I see things like this, i think, I have a saw, a level, and a hammer, surely I could build something myself? But, how to start?

Is there a website, or even an old book, that anybody can recommend with easy to follow plans and shopping lists (a shopping list this is probably the most important part!)?
