Fraid that almost certainly wont work; normal plaster or plasterboard products (& that include Fireline) won’t stand constant exposure to heat above a maximum of 50C. Read this & all the links;

As this comes up so often, I’ve put together this generic post; read the links but not all may apply to you.

You can DIY but you need to understand the Building Regs (which changed in October), submit a Building Notice & pay a fee. Your LABC will inspect &, assuming everything is OK, issue a compliance certificate; the BI may want to witness smoke & spillage tests.

Lots of archive threads on this, & other things you have to watch out for, here a few links for you to read:

& some more sobering just in case you think it’s all a load of old tosh:

Also get at least 3 quotes from local independent HETAS installers:

You might be pleasantly surprised & you should ask yourself if you really want all the hassle & risk getting it wrong; climbing onto the roof with an 8M stainless steel snake on your back is not for the feint hearted!

a vermiculite board on metal lath would work but in my opinion a crappy solution. Two coat lime render or weakish portland render would be a better option, the more room you have surrounding the burner the better, but as richard c linked, there are minimum clearance boundries which are there for your safety as well as meeting heatas requirements.

Plus, line the chimney with a 6" flexible flue liner, blank off with a registery plate to increase draw, this also allows you to back fill with vermiculite so the chance of condensation traveling back in to the wood burner is geatly reduced, making it more efficient. steer clear of cheep ebay burners as they are made from recycled iron and tend to be on the thin side.

one more thing, insist on an airwash system, as it keeps the glass nice and clear

surmon over :LOL:
