Any tips for removing woodchip wallpaper with 30 years worth of paint on it. The house i have just bought is decorated with the stuff from top to bottom.

Tried using a steamer and wet sponge but neither seams to penetrate the paint.

Cheers

A Commercial stripper from a hire shop, score the paper first, once you get a start it will come away.
Good Luck

Agree with Diyisfun! But you'll need to score quite deep to penetrate and it's a hell of a job not to mention messy esp on the floors. Also open windows to ventilate room as steam builds up on all your walls and ceilings.
Plus the wallpaper is hiding all manner of flaws underneath, be prepared for a lot of prep work before you paint again.

i bought my grans house few monhs ago, and i no that the woodchip has been on longer than 31 years cause i,m 31 and my mother lived here as a child and she cant remember how long its been there  ,anyways like the above said plenty of steam score it with stanley knife get HELP,HELP :D plenty of of good scrapers and attack it, took me, my girlfriend, her daughter 2 nites (6 hours) to strip one bedroom + like they said be ready for surprises  plaster was bit dodgy in sum places(very dry crumbly) lucky for me w got a plasterer in family

I actually bought a scorer made for the job by Stanley - it has 6 toothed wheels that when you roll it over the surface makes pin prick holes in the surface - very quick and easy to go over the area you want to strip before steaming and the steam penetrates a lot quicker than with straight blade like cuts (IMO) and there seems to be less risk of damaging the plaster surface underneath too.
