We are just about to install wooden flooring in our entire ground floor area - approx 42 square metres.
This includes the kitchen.
Is this a good idea ?
Has anyone had any problems with wooden flooring in kitchens ?
Should we waterproff some areas (near sink/washing machine) ??

i should suppose it depends on what type of wooden floor you intend to install. Parquet, laminated etc

Hi dave, we had laminate in the kitchen in our last house- and I have to say we never had any problems with it. We were careful to mop up spills quickly, as it wasn't treated, but it ws durable, and easy to keep clean. ( not to mention easy to lay!)

We are getting our kitchen done with laminate, to complete the ground flooring like yourself. We are going for the black marble look tile effect laminate which I think looks very neat. The only prob I would say with laminate is if you have kids running about with socks on it is like ice, I've had a few near misses at the bottom of the stairs myself.

if you are putting laminate flooring in your kitchen, there is a usually a range specifically made for areas of high humidty/moisture you have to check on the pack, you also require a waterproof memrane underlay.
