I am looking to gain access to my loft which is in a bungalow and I hope to be able to do the job myself using a pre made timber staircase that comes in pieces and is fitted once on site. Has anyone ever used such a staircase and was there any problems to overcome. Thanks for any advice.

I've never used one, but I personally would cut the supports myself.
Just measure the diagnal distance and share by the number of step you want.
There are some vids on youtube on how to do it.
Just makes sure you secure it really well at the top and bottom.
