I have noticed a cluster of what I assume are woodworm holes in our beech woodblock floor. They first came to my attention a few months ago and although I had not noticed them before I wonder if they have always been there. We have lived here for then years or so and must admit that we have paid little attention to the floor apart from keeping it clean. The previous owners of this house laid the floor which used to be in an old school hall and it has several marks and the odd small hole here and there which we have always found to add character. I am told that if this is active woodworm then we would see some evidence of dust which we have not.

Is there something which I can use to treat this myself or if I assume that it is old inactive woodworm and it isnt will it destroy my floor/house.

Hi Lesley,
I think the worm/beetles are active May-July and if there is no sign of wood dust then don't worry- just keep a look out. They are likely long gone and no threat. It is a different type in hardwood usually than in
softwood.
Hope this helps.
