We have recently had an infestation of woodworm re-treated free of charge under the terms of a 30 year guarantee issued in 1987. The firm in question are unwilling to provide written "acknowledgement" that this work has been carried out. They simply say that the remainder of the term of the original guarantee is still valid. This may well be standard practice but I am concerned by a number issues.
1. Should we sell the property in the near future (as we plan to do), presumably there will still be evidence of infestation but no (written) evidence that this has been treated.
2. The work that was carried out was presumably to the same standard as work that would come with a long guarantee. No further guarantee has been issued.
3. I will have to honestly provide this information in the property questionnaire as part of the new Home Report coming into force in Scotland on 1st December. Again, I will have no evidence to provide.
Any thoughts?
