Hi there,

I was wondering someone could give some advice, I've a worcester 240 and the hot water seems to come on and off, if you have shower the hot water goes cold then after a minute or so it gets hot again.

The tenperature is fine when it's hot but it does seem to take a bit longer than usual to heat up when you first turn the tap on.

Many thanks,

Gordon

dirt in secondary heat exchanger is the most likely cause.

Thanks Mick is that a fairly straight forward fix, is it a case of taking off and cleaning out or a replacment part.

Many thanks.

not seen a 240 for some time, but from what I remember, it is quite straightfoward, I'd replace it, then clean the old one ready for next time - system may well need some cleaning and a filter fitting.

Thanks again Mick, I'm not bad around a bit of plumbing so is it something that I could tackle or is it more complicated, the last thing i want is to make the situation worse.

Thanks,

Gordon

There is no way I can tell if you are capable of doing this, or any other job. All I can say is I don't find it too dificult, but repairing boilers is my job.

I have the same boiler and I have just taken a look where the heat exchange is. It is behind the control panel (which unscrews and folds down) so you should be ok. Most importantly it doesnt look like any gas pipes need to be touched which would make in an immediate non diy job in my opinion.
These boilers have a few extendable pipes with o-rings inside. So if you move one make sure you take it apart and relubricate with silicone grease otherwise you will probably have a leak.
