Worcester 25Si Stepper Motor

Hi All,
just had a new Worcester 25Si boiler fitted - no problems.
I notice that the diverter valve is driven by a stepper motor.
I'm into electronics as a hobby & was wondering if anybody knew what type of stepper motor is fitted, what voltage / waveforms are used to drive it,
how many coils etc.
How does it keep track of where it is - especially after mains switched off?
Also if anybody has a spare Worcester stepper motor from a scrap boiler I would like to have it to "play" with - would like to control it from microprocessor. Would willing pay P&P

Better not to go tampering with a new boiler under guarantee.

Most operate like a printer, move from one end to the other at start of every session.

Most count the pulses to get to mid position ( only used in test situations ) and just give the right number of pulses to move to the opposite location.

Most PCBs are powered at 24v so most pulses would probably be 24v unless reduced in the PCB to the more standard 5v.

I dont see what it should interest you so much. You could always look at the waveform with a scope if you must but again I don't advise opening the boiler anyway.

Many boiler front covers are the sealed combustion area and a DIYer should not be opening them!

Safer to play with an old printer!

If you must have a boiler part then a stepper from a Vaillant diverter valve is easier to get as they often fail.
