We live in a house with a worcester 9/24 heatslve combi. The problem I have now is that when the hot tap in the kitchen is turned on the boiler doesnt kick in until the tap is fully on, thus only giving tepid water. When the hot tap is on slowly and suilding up , the boiler still doesnt kick in

Bet it's the plate heat exchanger that's scaled up. It needs descaling or replacing.

9.24 is fitted with a plate heat exchanger and its a bit of a s*d to change but your problem sounds more like the plunger in the head of the diverter valve is not comeing out fully to reach the micro switches, if you locate the brass diverter valve (usually on the left)you should be able to see the plunger ,just. As your boiler is between 13 and 18 years old you will probably require a full new valve or beter still a new boiler.
