Evening,

We have a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 2000. It has only ever filled to about 1.25bar, it won’t go any higher, and it loses pressure completely maybe two or three times a year. No sign of a leak anywhere.

As our house is generally warm enough that we don’t use the heating that much and we’re planning on moving the boiler out the spare room at some point soonish we’ve embarrassingly ignored the problem.

Anyway I got home today to find the heating hasn’t kicked in even though the thermostat downstairs says it’s on. Front of the boiler reads 52 degrees. Thermostat downstairs says the house is 16 degrees.

I can only assume the boiler thinks it’s hotter than it is so it isn’t firing. I filled the pressure up and for the first time ever it hit about 1.5 bar. As I did this, the boiler temp dropped. As soon as I stopped filling the temp started to rise again.

There are no error codes. The boiler went in to chimney sweep mode absolutely fine and started to heat the house. I have reset it at the fuse spur with no change.

Any ideas? I’m guessing the boiler thermostat has gone.

Could be the thermostat or external control including any motorised valve
