Morning all,

I've noticed very recently that our Worcester Bosch Boiler is constantly ON and making a fair bit of noise.

The flame is not on, but certainly sounds like the pump is running, AND the water temperature does seem high considering we've not had any demand for it for a good 48hrs or so. Boiler is a 40cdi Greenstar Regular, Setup CH only and an unvented cylinder.

I recorded a video to help describe what i'm seeing/hearing, that can be found HERE

My questions are is this easy to fix? And if not, is it expensive to leave it like this till i get an engineer out? (ironically i think this started happening after it's last service a couple weeks back!.. so hoping it's just a setting they've wrongly activated)

thanks for your help all,

Ged

Quite possible a motorised valve has failed

WRT cost to leave as is, your boiler will be consuming gas each time it fires. Get it looked at

How do you mean? it will consume gas each time it fires irrespective of the fact its constantly running something right?

am i not better just to turn it off at the wall until we have a demand for hot water?

If the timer is not calling, boiler fires and heat may not be going anywhere if motorised valve is closed and demand is placed by faulty end of travel switch

Sorry not technical, not sure what that means.

if the timer is not calling? What timer? this is on HIVE.

And demand wise; this was probably clear on the video/description above but i'll say it again.

:- The flame is not on and hasn't been on for 48hrs, there is no demand currently but the boiler is making lots of noise and the pump is running.

update - looks like the service engineer had moved the hot water valve to the manual position.... essentially making a demand for hot water constant.

not looking forward to my gas bill this month!

Hive is just a glorified timer.

Putting a valve in manual position should not fire the boiler. Silly of him to do that and not tell you valve is faulty
