Hi All,

Please help me... I'm stressed!!!
We have a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 37CDi Combi which for the last 8 months or so has been ok. In the last 6 weeks or so, the boiler has been making a really load noise. It's a bit like a bum note on a Trombone would sound and lasts 3-4 seconds. It happens mainly a few seconds after you've run the hot water but also happens occasionally when the heating is on. The flame is a nice blue colour with a tiny yellow tip and the fan sounds quiet and ok. A W/B engineer diagonsed the problem through a friend and said there is a 3/8th pipe between the flow and return heat exchangers which is a common fault and can be fixed by removing the pipe and plugging both ends!!!! Surely the pipe does something!?!?!
I can answer any questions if anyone asks.
My aim is to get an idea of the fault before calling out an engineer. I don't want to be ripped off. HUGE thanks in advance.

Rich.

Sounds like the air/gas mix needs setting up.

You need an RGI with a flue gas analyser to attend to it.

The pipe he is refering to is the bypass with isnt really needed. There is a known issue with them causing noise. Not normally a trombone noise though.

the pipe he is talking about is the bypass pipe but yours hasn't got one, its only on the si and i models! that noise is a clunking to do with the non return valve...i think theres been a breakdown in communication as they say!

Your problem will be the gas air mix as stated...the min is set too low!

You need a RGI to analyze the co2 and set it. will take 5 mins and shouldn't be expensive. if its still in warranty WB will do it for free! hope this helps

Hello all,

Thank you for your replies. It's nice to know it's the set up rather than anything mechanical! I've contacted my neighbours son who's gas safe to come have a look,

Tibbot, unfortunately there are many many "Tradesmen" who do exactly that!

No harm in being a little wise to the problem hey!?

Thanks again all,

Eich.

HI Rich,
have you had any joy yet with your 37CDI boiler noise problem? Would be very interested to see if and how this is resolved since we have the identical problem with our 37CDI which was installed about 3/4 months ago and had been working without fault until suddenly developing this fault.
Thanks, Jwallsey.
