Worcester Greenstar 35 CDi

Hi,

I have just had a new worcester bosch 35CDi combi boiler fitted to my semi-detached three bedrooom house. I have had the boiler fitted by a professional plumber who just finished the job over the weekend.

On running the hot water tap I can only get medium / warm water regardless of how much or little the water speed is adjusted. The water temp adjustment on the boiler is set to max. Not sure if there is an additional temperature control behind the front cover of the boiler.

Can anyone please help or advise what could be the problem, or how I can get the boiler to kick out some hot water.

One wonders why the "professional plumber" was working over the weekend?

Did he complete the Benchmark Certificate and is he going to inform CORGI who will advise your local Building Control department?

It may be that you have not been advised that a combi is not designed to give a hot water temperature more than about 50 ° C and that would only be at a lower flow.

It may be that you are using too much flow from your hot taps. You can only get about 14 litres per minute raised 35 ° C that becomes about 40 ° C at a hot tap.

Does the heating come on at all when running the HW.

Agile the boiler will have an internal flow restrictor fitted before the flow sensor and its unlikely that Mr professional has removed that!

In a bid to help the OP which is the point can I suggest that the boiler is under gassed either because there is a problem with the incomming supply or because Mr Professional has not installed the correct gas supply for the appliance.

If you are unsure get a Corgi inspector to take a look at it for you.

Im assuming u mustve had hot water over the weekend so it could be a gas pressure problem. I dont think it's fair to say anything wrong about the guy working over the weekend, maybe he wanted sum "overtime".

In any case, why not just phone back the installer ?

Hi,

The guy worked over the weekend as a favour, I have had no hot water for three weeks as the old boiler completely packed in, he wasn't too pleased working part of the weekend as he missed his golf.

Yes, he is corgi registered. But after speaking to him I don't think he fits worcester boilers regularly, he would normally fit valiant boilers.

I understand with boilers if the flow rate is dropped then the temp will increase but the water temp even with a low flow rate is warm, not hot.

He insisted the gas pipe was replaced from a 15mm to a 22mm diameter and has replaced this already.

In any case, why not just phone back the installer ?

Yes, I will speak to the installer, but if he's missed some kind of temperature restrictor or something that could affect the boiler then he's likely to miss it again.

Phone wb they will come out as it should be under warranty if not you can just phone them yourself and warranty it. Check it has been flushed first because if the gas is alright thats the next thing to be checked. I have numbers if you have not being left paperwork.

However, if your boiler is like the early ones then it has a nice digital display and you set the maximum output DHW temperature as a software setting.

If you look at the operating manual it should show you how to do this. As part of the cost cutting its possible the manufacturers have removed all of the nice to have command and control features so perhaps this feature is no longer available.

22 mm gas pipe on your power of boiler will only be sufficient to meet the regulations if the effective length is less than about 6 m from the meter!

Hi,

Yes it does have the "inteligent Controller" digital type. After having a look at the instructions it doesn't give much info as to hidden menu to increase the water temp electronically.
