We moved this summer and the gas CH system is driving us nuts. (It's not a new house)
The boiler is a Worcester Greenstar 24Ri regular boiler, fitted in the garage, with a thermostat in one room and a Wickes/Siemens RWB9 controller in another room. Radiators have thermostatic valves.
Under normal situation in the autumn, the CH and HW worked OK but it has become very erratic in the last few weeks, just as it has got a lot colder.
We have a situation where the programmer shows both CH and HW to be "on" but the radiators are cold, and there is no green burner light on the boiler. Once there is no green burner light showing, it is proving really difficult to get it going again. We want to get a plumber in to service the boiler but at the moment we are frustrated by not even being able to describe the problem easily (as you can see!! )
We have been tinkering with programmer and thermostat settings for some weeks to try to get the system working OK and generally it does - until weeks like this when it seems to go haywire.
The programmer is set for 7 day operation (always has been) and using the reset button shows 3P 16 (which is correct). We find that the problems come when we start to use the Advance button on the programmer, as this has been used a lot (actually mainly unsuccessfully) during the school holidays.
When the system gets going, both HW and CH work fine and the radiators are also fine, but somehow we think that using the Advance button to bring the heating on earlier is somehow fooling the system into shutting down and then it refuses to restart. In particular, we think that if the CH/HW is still on when the next "On" period is due, the system just switches itself off instead of staying on and it then becomes impossible to get the damn system to switch back on again.
Sorry if this is all a little muddled, but we are pulling our hair out trying to get this - seemingly - perfectly system to do some fairly straighforward stuff (heat water when the red light on the programmer is "on" <sigh>)
So.....
..any ideas?
...are we right in thinking this is something to do with the programmer rather then the boiler?
...can using the Advance button confuse the system into shutting down and then not restarting until the next scheduled "On" point? (Anyone else had this problem?)
...we use one of the three On points just to switch the CH/HW on for twenty minutes in the middle of the day. Could this also be connected with the problem?
Appreciate any help as this very frustrating. if we can isolate the problem we can at least focus on that part!!
