What better place to ask here :D :
As diy-ers would you buy materials on-line?
If so, what kind of materials (all, tools, flooring, tiles, timber, appliances, boilers etc)?

Kind regards

Personally I do all my purchasing on line, I've not been ripped off yet. The key word here is caution.

I do buy on line, but have not bought tools or materials. When I have bought on line I have no problems. I only buy what I know I want ie Manufacture, model, colour etc. I did look at buying ceramic tiles & venetian blinds, whilst they will & do send samples, there is nothing like touchy / feelie.

So if you know exactly what you want OR are not fussy I cant see any problem buying on line

For me, everything except materials (that includes kitchen cabinets, bathroom suits etc.).

However I did buy all the bits of my shower online, but that is because I knew the shower-valve I was buying.

Tools, yes I buy online.

Saying that, I have often had things delivered from builders' yards. I have often found that when they send me timber there are one or two warped pieces in the delivery. Ordering a delivery from a yard is just as risky as ordering online.

Just started online shopping with Tesco and no more standing in the middle of the aisle with the shopping trolley feeling like a C&A dummy :D

The only thing with Tesco's online shopping is that you will get second choices if the original is not available and also you may not get the best choice of say the fruit ie bruised etc.
Apart from that and the small fee it's ok.

That's correct but if you don't want the 2nd choices you tell them by writing it in the diabox section. Been doing for 3 weeks now and it only happen once so it's not too bad. Also, so far we has 5 items extra for free to cover the delivery cost

yes they are very good with trying to keep the customer happy, it's more a personal thing when making choices and you rightly said no more queueing is definitely a big advantage.

I have bought a few things online and had no problems.

I would suggest though that anyone doing it has a CC insurance which covers online dealing. It is very cheap really, I recently renewed mine and for both of us, for all cards including abroad and online, it was around £50.

I don't think I would reveal my details over the phone or online without it. ;)
