what would you do with this crack. I'm not sure if its been filled as i didn't do it but its still noticeable. I don't know whether to just paint over it or to open it up and then fill it with plaster and then paint it.
Presented with a crack like that in plaster, I would enlarge the crack, brush in dilute PVA (in the hope of "gluing" the edges of the loose plaster to the brickwork). When dry I would fill with toupret flex and fill (it is available in tubs or caulking tubes). It is like a caulk with reinforcing fibres. Like caulk it shrinks back. Leave it for a day or two to shrink back. Then fill with a filler of your choice.
I have only been using it for about 5 years, I have been very impressed with the results. Particularly because I haven't had customers phoning me to complain a year or two down the line.
I'd do it differently by knocking off the plaster. Bricks are probably cracked so I'd fill those.
Metal lath screwed over.
Plaster.
Bigger job than filling though.
Also is it old lime plaster?
