I am contemplating connecting new circuits to an existing Wylex consumer unit - possibly about two years old. It consists of 16 amp MCBs only - storage heaters - some used, some spare.

It has occured to me some or all of these could be the ones that were to be recalled.

I am still waiting for Wylex to call me back over a similar enquiry well over a year ago.

I'm sure on this forum there was a list of batch numbers to be wary of on 6, 16 and I think 10 amp MCBs.

Can anyone advise me here?

I shall check tomorrow.

I have found some at home I removed from somewhere over a year ago.

Presumably I can re-use these.

It is your CU you're adding to, not a customer's?

No, it is not my CU. I don't have Wylex MCBs at home.

When all the uproar about Wylex MCBs occured, I immediately replaced some 16 and 6 amp MCBs I had purchased/fitted in the period specified. Wylex couldn't help me over the phone.

I brought the MCBs home and kept them in a safe place so I could find out if they were the dodgy ones or not. Naturally I never got round to it, and Wylex were supposed to phone me back.

Now I have the list of batch numbers it looks like I can re-use them in the future somewhere. I assume this would be reasonable.

I have not yet returned to my other, more recent, job to check the batch numbers. This CU was not installed by me, but I estimate it was installed within the last five years.

Is it worth validating that list and putting it in the WIKI in case somebody on these shores has not had their dodgy MCB's swapped out??
