I was once listening to Radio 2 and there was this song on which had an absolutely crazy xylophone solo in it. A lot of the licks were pentatonic, like you get with a guitar solo, if that helps.

The DJ didn't back announce it (grrr) and nor was it on the internet playlist.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I have never heard a rock song with a xylophone solo in it before! Help!

ie, the sort of guitar solo one would expect a drummer to come up with.

lol. OK but drummers are a necessary evil. You know it's all over when the drummer says "Hey guys, I've got a song".

What about keyboard players: "I can play anything as long as it is in C. Or Am aeolian."

  Well as long as it's an electronic keyboard there's always the transpose button!

Amongst many other instruments, like xylophone (and bag-pipes and, and, and....)
BTW, does anyone know if the concert he did at Edinburgh castle is availalbe on vidoe or DVD?

and, and... slightly out-of-tune guitar. I use that excuse as well! :)

Wow, what a bizarre band. I love them. Thank you for introducing them to me. (Still searching through the tracks to see if this solo is on one of them).

i heard a dire straits track on radio 2 today with a xylophone solo on it, private investigations

Thanks for that. It still ain't that one. Nice-ish example of call and response though.

The song I continue to go on about is absolutely bonkers.

the spike milligan Q series can't remember which one had a xylophone introduction that was completely unusual and original.
