Hello,
several weeks ago our white cotton laundry started to become tainted yellow. We have a Miele washing machine that is three years old and have been using the same detregent for years.
We have called the washing machine service, plumber and are ready to call a witchcraft expert.
No one can pinpoint the cause nor offer a solution.
Anyone out there ever run into similar problem?

Has the waterboard, been doing any work in your area recently?
They could have disturbed some rust while replacing pipework, just a thought.

I have known Chlorine bleach cause yellow staining. I can't remember why though. The stain does not appear straight away, I think it oxidises over time or something.

Oil or grease also can go yellow, e.g. if you had cooking oil on something and use low-temperature washes which do not clean away all the residue from inside the machine. It is worth doing an occasional high-temperature maintenance wash with no powder, just some old cotton towels. If the water foams up you know there is a soap and grime residue left in the machine from low-temperature washes.

p.s. the yellow sock is a possibility if it is hiding between the drum and the tub. Or maybe a steel bra underwire got caught and going rusty. But the Miele repairman should have known about that.

Have you been on holiday recently? I have had the same problem with white t-shirts, it was caused by sunscreen. Laundry looks fine until you wash it.
