I am using an iMac with Yosemite OS.
On You Tube, selecting on a Video or even Settings does not work in the same way as it has for years. Normally selecting a video results in a new screen with the selection beginning to play, This does not work now and what I have to do is double finger select on the wireless trackpad, then select open tab in new window. Two windows are now open of which I need to select the tab for the new window and start the video. This is also necessary even when selecting Settings etc. The actions on my iPad are as normal,
Maybe there has been an update of the You Tube system which is not compatible with the old Yosemite OS. The latest version Apple OS apparently will not run of my 8 year old iMac or maybe there is a setting which I do not know off.
Can anyone help?

When last did it work for you? Adobe blocked Flash Player on 12th Jan. YouTube may have been using Flash previously, and changed to HTML5 since. Are you running the latest version of Safari?

It last worked certainly Before 12 Jan. Not sure if my Safari is the latest version, Mine is 10.1.2(10603.3.8). I thought Apple auto updated Safari!!
If You Tube has changed from Flash the HTML5, how would I fix it.
The odd thing is that You Tube works as normal in my iPad.

According to Wikipedia, the latest Safari version is 14.0, so you're several versions behind.

I'm not an Apple person, but what I can see, they bundle Safari updates with macOS updates, which is why you haven't been upgraded. I guess the official Apple response would be "you need to buy new kit" (which is why I'm not an Apple person).

iPads and iPhones use iOS instead of macOS, so completely different release paths.

You might want to try install either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome and use that instead of Safari. Using an outdated browser has security risks, so you should avoid if possible.

Thanks so much rossj81. If I bite the ullet and buy new kit, it may be wise to go with your advice and go with Windows .
I am always wary of changing Browsers etc as whenever I do I end up with compatibility issues, some stuff just doesn't work or the presentation od information is unfamiliar. I am 'scared' of changing to windows for reasons of transferring data(Pictures, Documents etc) from an iMac to a Windows system and of course there is the familiarity issue.
Initially I think I will try the Google Chrome approach you suggest .

Just installed Google Chrome and it seems to haves one the Biz.
I get You Tube working as before.
As the browser is new to me, I need to get familiar with it, but that seems to have sorted my issue out.
Thanks again for your Help.

Is there any way I could increase the number of shortcuts available in Chrome? There appears to be a limit of 10
