looking at similar topics in previous posts it seems my problem could be due to a blocked waste pipe or clogged up sensor in the machine what I want to know is where do I locate these things in the machine and how do I get access to them?
thanks in advance for any help offered

I dont know much about d/w but if it stops its one of two things,

its broken

its waiting for something to happen. (say the rinse cycle)

where does yours stop (what should it be doing) and what do you do to "make it carry on?"

it stops not long after the tablet 'pops' out, I have to move the dial round a couple of notches to start it up again. I did think it was waiting too so I leave it in case it's 'soaking' or something but if I didn't touch it it'll still be stuck there when Buck Rogers is around.

Might be waiting for the water to get hot, ie broken heater.

good point. next obvious question, is it easy to change the element? I can see it inside the machine but will I need to get underneath the machine to change it? and, are they expensive or is it worth getting a new machine?

it may not be the element, i am not saying it is, i am not saying it isnt (may be its stat) i would suggest getting an applinace engineer, preferably from the maker

There's a couple of good blokes on ebay selling parts, try a search under "Zanussi spares" and see what you get.

Before leaping off and buying things it's always worth narrowing down what could be wrong and confirming it first.

Do you have an economy wash on your machine? This just uses the temperature of the incoming hot water and not the element. You could try doing one of these washes and see what happens. If it continues through this wash then, yes, it could be the heating circuit. However, changing the element is a laborious job.

If it is a blocked pump then you need to get access to the back/underneath of the machine. Switch the machine off from the electricity supply. Trace the waste pipe back and you will find it joins to a small unit at the base of the machine. Providing you've drained all the water out first by laying the waste pipe flat there shouldn't be much left in the pump. The pipe is fitted to the pump by a standard clip. Remove pipe and have a look. The vanes in the pump should run freely. If its clogged up clean it out. You can pour some water into the drum and it should wash through the pump to see if it's draining properly. If not it could be on the other side of the pump. There should be similar piece of pipe connecting between the base of the drum and the pump. Take that off and have a look.

Now, having written all that I've re-read the next part of your post about the fact that if you move the dial on the machine will continue with its wash - so it may be nothing to do with the pump at all!! (If all else fails read the instructions  )

If you can let us know exactly what it is or isn't doing we might be able to point you in the right direction.

If you don't want to do that you can always get a local engineer from an independant retailer. They should be reasonably priced.

IanDB twice you mentioned the word drum, sorry mate its a dishwasher (Post Subject: zanussi dishwasher stopping midcycle) we are refering to, they dont have drums

You know Breezer, it must be age. I go off at b****y tangents sometimes. You're quite right it's not a b****y washine machine it's a b****y dishwasher. I think I'll book myself into a home now. Doooh!!

I meant for fitting advice, a certain seller in particular is very friendly and knowledgable!

thanks for all your comments and advice. I'm going to get someone out, if it's not cost efficient to repair I'll get a new one. 'er indoors wants to go down that road anyway and it looks like there's a few bargains for new machines on ebay.
