Zanussi Nexus door won't open

Why do these things always happen at the weekend when it's impossible to get anyone out to fix them? My old Zanussi washing machine is refusing to allow me to open the door at the end of a cycle. Door lock has 'clicked' off and light on door has gone out. Handle feels looser than it usually does. Can anyone suggest how I can retrieve my wet washing please before it spoils? I've tried pressing the door and banging the machine as suggested on other postings!!!! Thanks!

Try sliding a length of strong twine between the top & bottom of the door & keeping it taught, pull it towards the hinges, in doing so hopefully releasing the latch.
