Well the subject says it all really, everything seems okay as far as I can tell.

I havn't managed to get the back off the machine yet (left socket set at work), but since getting hold of a service manual is a no-go I'll just have to ask all you guru's instead :) The three things that AFAICT I need to look at are:

a) is heating element stuffed?
I think I can see the heating element on the very top of the machine near the back wrapped in insulating material.

From what I've seen in another post, I need to try unplugging all four wires at the back and testing for connectivity in pairs (it has two heat settings). Presumably the resistance should be fairly high, just not infinite.

I suppose I might find that one heat setting works and the other doesn't? I've not tried that...

b) has thermal cutout occured?
The other thing I can see are two little blocks attached to the heating element. The RHS one (looking from the front) has two terminals, one wire from each. The LHS one has two terminals with one wire from one, two wires from the other. The LHS block also has a little red button on it.

I've seen some posts saying that these can be reset buttons, but I've seen other posts saying that they can be thermal cutouts and that if pressed it's a new heating element block. Does anyone know what _this_ red button does as I'm a bit nervous!

c) has fluff filter got gunked up?
Finally I should see if there is a condensing filter filled with fluff? (There is a fluff filter easily accessible from the front which is fine).

Or should I just give up now and call in an expert?

Many thanks!

Adrian

red button is a reset button. meter the two stats and the two pairs of elements.

:D it was the reset button it went "click" and in a bit when I pressed it.
nice and easy.

I found a fan lying in the bottom of the machine which looks like it had fallen off the motor driving the fan? at the top of the machine. It looks like the fan is ducted into a transformer to keep it cool so I reattached it.

I definitely owe you for this - paypal/amazon wish list or something? I see references to sending emails to people if logged in, but I can't see any way to see someone's profile (presumably admins only). I wonder if it's only if you tick the button in the profile.

Many thanks,

Adrian

Glad you got it fixed. No need to buy me Paypal or Amazon though :p
When you look at the list of posts you'll notice nics are in blue, click on the blue nic and it will open the profile page for that nic.
I don't have any details on my profile though (nor do you  ), prefer not to receive emails etc, just want to help when and where I can.
