Zanussi WJS1397W aborts dry cycle and starts washing

Our 6 year old washer dryer developed an intermittent fault around 6 months ago that now happens every time a drying cycle is used. After about 5-10 minutes into a drying cycle, the machine clicks over to the next wash cycle and starts filling with water. This happens on both the low heat and high heat dry cycles (which have different programmes on the dial). I'm tempted to replace the programmer / timer, but want some expert opinion first. Any ideas?
